Living With Anxiety?

Vision Counselling & Consulting Offers Therapy For Overcoming Anxiety

Anxiety Disorders

Anxiety disorders are the most common mental health concerns people experience. These include, generalized anxiety, social anxiety, panic disorders, specific phobias, perinatal anxiety, agoraphobia, etc.

We all experience anxiety from time to time, but anxiety becomes problematic when it begins to negatively impact our relationships, our anxiety is overblown/ disproportionate to the actual risks of a situation, our anxiety is focused to a specific situation (e.g. health anxiety), it hinders our ability to perform daily tasks, interferes with physiological needs (e.g. sleep), and we feel unable to quickly move past situations that cause us anxiety.

When To Get Help

When anxiety is left untreated, it can become debilitating and greatly impact the quality of our lives. Many people who live with debilitating anxiety have become stuck in a pattern of avoidance towards those situations that trigger their anxiety. While it is normal to want to avoid stressful/ anxiety provoking situations, this behaviour often serves to maintain and increase our anxiety. By not allowing ourselves to experience these situations head on, we deny ourselves the opportunity to learn the actual degree of danger within the situation and our ability to cope with it. As a result, our worlds become much smaller and our life experiences less rich.

Anxiety is a natural human emotion that serves to enhance our survival. However for many, their anxiety exceeds what may be considered a normal amount. For those in such situations, anxiety steals their ability to live in the present, and even activities that should bring enjoyment are clouded by a mind that is occupied by a multitude of anxious thoughts about regrets of the past and worries for the future. They forever live in their heads and find themselves unable to fully engage with their environment and those around them. While attempting to grasp greater control over their lives, they find their sense of control slipping further from their grasp.

The Vision Counselling & Consulting Approach

Problematic anxiety can become such a persistent fixture of our daily lives, that we may start to believe it is something we will have to live with forever. The good news is that no matter how long you have lived with anxiety, it does not have to overwhelm your ability to function each day, steal your ability to experience important and precious moments, block you from connecting with the ones you love, and deny you of opportunities for living a full life. Our therapists will support you in developing a robust psychological tool kit for managing anxiety and its accompanying physical symptoms, while retraining your mind towards thoughts that will allow you to unleash your full potential and achieve your goals for a rich and meaningful life.

Our skilled and compassionate therapists utilize highly effective evidence based therapeutic approaches including, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Exposure therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Accelerated Resolution Therapy, and Mindfulness Based Interventions.
