Vision Counselling & Consulting Offers Specialized Trauma Therapy

Living with Unresolved Trauma?

What Trauma Can Feel Like

An experience of trauma can weave itself through the very fabric of each experience thereafter – leaving us with an overwhelming feeling of loss of control over our minds and bodies, even many years after its occurrence. The memory of a traumatic experience can feel so consuming that we do our very best to stuff it down and yet despite this, seemingly minor situations can trigger strong feelings of danger – resulting in debilitating feelings of panic, disproportionate acts of aggression, impulsivity, and dissociative reactions – where we seemingly leave our bodies entirely.

Our reactions can sometimes lead to feelings of shame, further compounding those we already hold about our identity and questions about our sanity. Those around us often do not understand our reactions, and we may struggle to explain it as we often do not understand it ourselves.

The Vision Counselling & Consulting Approach

As irrational and incomprehensible as your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours may seem to you – we assure you that our non-judgmental highly trained trauma specialists have seen and effectively treated a wide variety of trauma based conditions and populations. Following assessment, our initial goal will be to provide you with meaningful and relatable psycho-education on the impact of trauma on the brain and its functioning, because once you understand that your reactions are the brain’s normal response to abnormal circumstances – you will be well on your way towards moving past feelings of shame and moving towards recovery.

Trauma is highly subjective and may occur directly or indirectly. An experience that results in enduring trauma for one may not for another. In other words, you can experience trauma without being traumatized. The factors that determine whether exposure to trauma will result in psychiatric conditions (e.g. PTSD) are highly complex. Our approach is one that focuses on the experience of trauma for you as an individual. No traumatic experience is too small nor too big. Whether you have experienced one or multiple trauma exposures, our team is highly skilled and available to support and walk alongside you in your recovery journey.

Clients typically seek support when they notice that their experiences of trauma have been negatively impacting their relationships, ability to manage their emotions, daily functioning, work performance, and their ability to fulfill basic physiological needs (e.g. sleep) and all of their attempts to resolve their trauma on their own have proven unsuccessful.
