Living with ADHD?
Vision Counselling & Consulting Offers Effective Support For ADHD

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)

What is Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)? We’ve all heard of it, but seem to have difficulty defining it beyond difficulty with concentration. While we have all experienced difficulty paying attention, many of us would not meet a diagnosis for ADHD. Those living with ADHD experience a significant impact to functioning in several crucial areas of daily life, including relationships, work, and academics.

Symptoms

The key symptoms of ADHD include:

o    Difficulty with focus and concentration
o    Difficulty completing tasks
o    Distractibility
o    Impulsivity
o    Poor memory/ forgetfulness e.g., difficulty remembering

appointments or obligations (without reminders), frequently

      losing or misplacing things
o    Poor time management, planning, and prioritization skills
o    Disorganization
o    Difficulty with multi-tasking
o    Impatience e.g., difficulty with taking turns or waiting in line
o    Difficulty coping with stress
o    Low frustration tolerance
o    Frequently shifting moods
o    Emotional dysregulation

Those with hyperactivity traits may also experience
o    Fidgeting and difficulty remaining seated when required
o    Restlessness
o    Frequently interrupting others

ADHD is also often accompanied by other mental health concerns, including but not limited to:

o    Anxiety
o    Depression
o    Body Focused Repetitive Behaviours (skin picking, hair pulling, nail biting, lip or cheek biting,        etc.)

Symptoms of trauma, grief, anxiety, chronic or acute stress, and head injuries (e.g. concussions) often mimic those of ADHD. At Vision Counselling & Consulting, we offer assessment to help you determine whether you may be experiencing ADHD, a similar, or co-occurring disorder, and will help you chart a comprehensive treatment plan to effectively manage your symptoms and reduce the impact to your daily life and relationships. Our services are available to both children and adults, and may be addressed through individual, couples, and family sessions.
